EICRI LAUSANNE – Swiss voters have approved a ban on full facial coverings including niqab and burqa in nearly all public places in a closely contested referendum on Sunday.

The so called “burqaban” proposal was supported byover 51% of the Swiss voters, according to official results.
Muslim women are still allowed to wear the covering in religious places and in private surroundings.
Islamophobia is on the rise in Switzerland, as it is in other European countries like France and Belgium.
